Comillas Pontifical University has developed a quality plan that aims to promote a culture of quality and continual improvement with regard to the courses we offer, our teacher-support systems and university services; a plan that is strengthened through our active participation in a diverse range of quality programs.

Following the guidelines provided by the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), Comillas Pontifical University participates in the following programs run by the national agency for external quality assurance in the Spanish higher education system (ANECA):

INSTITUTIONAL EVALUATION

  • INSTITUTIONAL ACCREDITATION
Royal Decree 640/2021, of 27 July, establishes institutional accreditation as a further step in the accreditation of universities. Those centres that have obtained this institutional accreditation will be able to renew the accreditation of the official qualifications that they issue without the need to undergo the procedure outlined in the Royal Decree 822/2021, of 28 September. This enables universities to autonomously guarantee the quality of their qualifications and centres.
  • AUDIT INTERNATIONAL
The purpose of this programme is to encourage and promote the development and implementation of internal quality assurance systems within Spanish universities, and to put into practice a procedure that leads towards the recognition and certification of said systems. The AUDIT International programme is undertaken in 3 clearly defined stages: orientation of the design of the SGIC (Internal Quality Assurance System), certification of the design of the SGIC and certification of the implemented SGIC.

EVALUATION OF QUALIFICATIONS

  • VERIFICA
The VERIFICA program assesses proposed Curricula designed in accordance with the EHEA. All our Bachelor's Degrees and Postgraduate Programs have been adapted to EHEA requirements and respond to both social needs and to a set of criteria that guarantee quality education, centered on student needs and their learning process.
  • MONITOR
The MONITOR program tracks official degree programs to verify appropriate delivery and results. Universities on this program are subject to regular external evaluations on how each of their courses is taught, in order for these evaluations to become yet another tool for improving the education received by university students.
  • ACREDITA
The ACREDITA program performs evaluations for the renewal of initial accreditation of official degrees. The main purpose of this process is to check that appropriate results are being achieved and that the program can continue in a suitable manner until the next renewal.
The process of renewing accreditation is divided into three stages:
    • Self-evaluation: The university describes and evaluates the status of the degree program using a set of pre-established criteria and guidelines. The outcome of this process is the Self-evaluation Report.
    • External visit: A group of external evaluators (expert panel), appointed by the ANECA, analyses the Self-evaluation Report and visits the centers where the degree is taught in order to verify the information provided in the Report. This group then issues a justified evaluation regarding the areas listed on the evaluation model (criteria, guidelines, evidence, indicators, etc.). The outcome of this stage is the Visit Report.
    • Evaluation by the accreditation commission: The ANECA Accreditation Commission has issued favorable final evaluation reports for renewal of accreditation for all degrees presented by Comillas Pontifical University to date.

EVALUATION OF TEACHING STAFF

  • PEP
The assessment program for hiring teaching staff (PEP) evaluates teaching and research activities, and the academic training of applicants for access to contracted university lecturer positions (contracted lecturer (with PhD), assistant lecturer (with PhD) and private university lecturer) as established in the Organic Law on Modification of the Organic Law on Universities (LOMLOU).
